The skier responsibility code and
skiing safety tips are in place to make sure that you do not injure yourself or others around you. Accidents happen on ski hills all the time and high speed impacts can cause serious injuries and even hospitalization.
- Make sure your equipment fits properly. Ski length should be appropriate to your skill level. A good equipment shop can outfit you with everything you need to have a successful and fun day.
- Dress appropriately. Layer your clothing and make sure you have a water proof jacket and pants on.
- Wear a helmet. Although it is not law to wear a helmet, it is just common sense. Smashing your head in a high speed collision on a ski hill can cause serious brain injuries and once your brain is damaged, it is usually permanent.
- Make sure you are in good enough shape to handle a full day of skiing. Although the thought of sliding down a hill may not seem like exercise, it does take a lot of muscle strength and flexibility to ski downhill. Keep up regular exercise all year around and do some stretching before you hit the ski hill.
- Take lessons. If you need some help then lessons are definitely a great way to learn the proper techniques and skills you need.
- Take a rest. It is important to take time out, and rest after several long runs. Go and sit in the ski lodge, have some food and drink and re-energize. Skiing takes a lot of energy, so once you feel tired, you need to rest.
