SKIER RESPONSIBILITY CODE

There is a certain set of rules when skiing and everyone who skis needs to adhere to the skier responsibility code. It helps to make everyone's experience much more enjoyable and safe. Every ski hill has skiers with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. The skier responsibility code ensure that everyone has the best possible experience while skiing.

Skier Responsibility Code:

  • Always be in control, do not ski too fast if you cannot maintain control. Make sure you are able to stop and to maneuver around objects and other skiers.
  • The skier in front of you has the right of way. It is your responsibility to stay out of their way.
  • Make sure that you have straps in place which attach to boots that stop your skis from going down the hill without you.
  • Before you get on a lift, make sure that you can negotiate the runs at the top of the lift safely with the necessary skills.
  • Never stop on a trail where you are not visible to others and do not block anyone's passage.
  • Before you start down a trail or when you reach a trail head, look up and yield to other skiers who are already descending.
  • Observe all posted signs, stay in bounds and don't endanger yourself or others.
Ignoring the skier responsibility code may result in you losing your skiing privileges and possibly being banned from a ski resort. In extreme cases where you cause injury to another skier, violation of the code can also lead to criminal charges.
